I am totally against war, but how many more times does the UN Security Council need to give him? They have already extended the resolution a couple of times. It is time they did something about it.
Since the US is telling Saddam to disarm the wepons of mass destruction, should they also not disarm their wepons of mass destruction along with the rest of the world? What is good for the goose, is good for the gander.
So all I have to say is this:
NO WAR
and
NO WEPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION Nice and simple. |

This is a Motorcycling forum, there are plenty of other places where people can find a soapbox to stand on.
I hope a moderator deletes this thread ASAP. |

| I agree with Al Kidd in that this is not the place for comments about Iraq. having seen that others do not agree,I shall add my peice. I am concerned about the way Saddam treats his people, but who in the west supportted him earlier, who sold him the anthrax etc they claim he has, why not publically name those companies and waych the people of the world send them to the wall, instead of dropping bombs on IRAQ.What would stop the UK from all out war in Ireland, if they get this excuse to go to Iraq, and what about Israel, they have broken more resolutions from the UN than the UN has made,They have weapons of mass destruction how come they have not got the bomb treatment. Both Pakistan and India also play up so why not include them in the war just to keep it going. I dont agree with this war because there are others just like him, and what is there to stop anybody else just [UK,YANKS, CHINA, South Africa, saying lets clean them up. ie Saudi Arabia, many African nations, Burma, most of the arabic countries, south america, and some of the old Russian empire states all behave differently to us so what will ensure the poms and the yanks dont knock them out. As you can see it is a complex issue and I do not believe any country has the right to move in as suggestted before the option of naming the source of all the bad stuff has been dealt with. Any way, by Bush's description we are all terroists so where does that leave usall, especially sidecar riders who are always plotting for more rides! |

I was totally against the war at first, thinking that the US should give IRAQ more time to come clean about their weapons of mass destruction. But as soon as IRAQ fired the SCUD Missiles (the ones they said they did not have), then I have to think that the UN had no balls at all, and got it wrong.
If a country (irrespective of which country) lies to the international community about weapons of mass destruction, and said that they destroyed them some time ago, then all of a sudden decide to use them, then the international community has not only a legal obligation, but a moral obligation to remove the dictator from power for the good of the rest of the world.
Civilian casualties will be unavoidable, but I realise that they will happen for the rest of the world to live at peace, and can only say sorry for me and what I believe should now happen. What else has IRAQ got, that they said they no longer have, chemical or nuclear weapons and where are the idiots going to use them?
Coalition forces go and kick the dictator’s arse for the rest of the world. |

I agree with Al Kidd and John Daley that there is ample opportunity to discuss the debacle elsewhere. Perhaps I have a slightly different view to many, as I worked in the defence area for about thirty years. In the west we have certain values concerning democracy and human rights. I believe we should be consistent in prompoting them every where. Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, Muammar Gaddafi, Robert Mugabi and Fidel Castro are all authoritarian and totalitarian leaders who run states within which there are gross human rights abuses. While we trade with them on any basis we are complicit. Personally I don't buy Nike anything, due to the exploitative nature of the factories in Indonesia under Megawati. While we in the west are content to buy from these states we will always end up fighting when they get too strong and begin to export their bullyboy tactics. Australia is involved in the food for oil trade with Iraq - totally unethical, even if we were making a quid for the farmers. And as for the debate as to whether we should support the yanks - totally irrelevant. Our own defence and trade agreements rely almost totally on our allegience to the US. The only alternative is a complete change of mindset as to how we support engineering and defence in Australia, if we are ever going to be independent. Enough said? Nobody likes war, tell me the alternative! |
