Greetings from the deep north.Has anyone access to results and practice times from this year's Island Classic? In Brisbane we don't get any motorcycle news unless it is bad news.Keep up the good work.

This web site must be the slowest on the net. It's taken me ten minutes to get from the front page to this point. Sorry David, but either you fix this site or give up. Noone seems interested in classic motorcycling anyway! I didn't get to Phillip Island on Australia Day weekend, but I'm still interested in any comments anyone has to make about the racing. There have been about sixty visits to this message, but no replies. What's wrong with you lot? You've got a golden opportunity to shoot your mouths off, why aren't you using this site to do it?

Alan,

I know what you mean. I am considering giving up on the site. I put it together for others to voice their opinions at no cost to them, but a s**t load to me, and what do they do? Absolutely NOTHING! It is getting pathetic that all these people want a site like this, but they do not do a simple thing like adding their comments.

If it doesn't pick up soon, I am going to have to close it down.

What do the users think about it closing down?

Cheers,

David

For those of you that would like to reply to my comments, why don't you register You must be logged in to see this link. and let others know as well.

Or if you think I should close it down, send me an e-mail RIGHT HERE. If it is positive words, then I will add it to the site for you even if it is not like John Daley's e-mail.

Cheers,

David

P.S. The site has only been going since the end of August 2000.

The below text is from John Daley:

To whom it may concern. You have a lot of cheek, you rebuke users for not being active in the site and yet it is the most difficult site to use. rebuking users is just the cheek. I would love to use it but my user name and pasword never seems to work, the site is too hard to get to, and with the concept of being thrown out if you dont go to it regularly, users are treated with contempt. You and I have discussed your reasons for the time limits, but I believe they are unacceptable. you need to be into marathons to perservere with this site.

John,

I have just checked your account, and it is still active. I do not see why you can not remember your password, but if it is a matter of needing your password emailed to you, then the system will do that and if users can not be bothered posting comment's and their account gets deleted, then bad luck. You agreed to the terms and conditions when you signed up and I have been lacked in enforcing them, and you have a CHEEK to criticise me for providing a free service to the public.

We had users that stated that the old message boards where crap and they preferred the new style. I do not need to defend myself to you. The facts are:

1. I provide a free service and pay a ton out of my pocket for it
2. You agreed to the Terms and conditions when you signed up
3. No body is posting (but I get the stats that show heaps of people visit)

All up since I started running this site it has cost me on average $90.00 per month connection fees, electricity, hardware for the servers (computers), software for the servers ($1000.00 so I do not breach piracy laws), SSL certificate at $250.00, telephone costs and endless amount of hours keeping the site up and running, all this while trying to spend time with the wife and children, and what for? That's right, the pleasure it brings to others. The figure I would put on the site is in excess of $6000.00 to have it running to date.

I would say that you have a CHEEK to complain about a free service I am providing to you.

Disappointed,

David

I have been tempted to say for a while , "what is wrong with you guys out there ??" all is so quiet with almost zero participation. I check the site regularly for interest. I really don,t have a lot to contribute myself as a lot of talk is re post classics etc and I only have two old velocettes which i push around sometimes as fast as I am game to with my 74th birthday close !! (and I dont really want to blow up the Mark viii KTT)

I had to withdraw from P I recently due to my wifes unexpected trip to hospital but went on sunday as a spectator and was very impressed with the period 5 races
I did not follow moderns thro that era but I gather a lot of the yamahas were the real things of that era great to see a class for them

again you yonger guys what a forum is offered to you , obviously a lot are tyre kicking like me but what about saying something now and then

I do find the site a bit difficult though, I thought just old age, I did suggest a "classic m/cycling site for dummies" spec sheet a long time ago

Well what do I think of the going on's!! Well I have phoned PIMRC for results of classic meeting but they have not bothered to return my calls, I have emailed the lap timing people!! When we had things right!! The other stole our links so what!! This is the "only" free to the users web for classic/post/P5 motorcycling pages that do not have crap commericals.

David has at great expence to his pocket and life style, run this web with great success "but" it takes input FROM YOU THE READER to make it run. No input it DIE'S!!

We even offered FREE race tickets in a competion, but not even one person bothered to enter it, "DONT you know the Aussie were who WON THE I.O.M??, and for the You must be logged in to see this link. stickers which STICKY LABLES donated to us you, or most we too lazy to send a self stamped addressed envolope for some to try and help US, help you in your sport of classic motorcycling.

Yes I have been around the motorcycle race sceen since 1954 and have supported bikes for riders on and off as money is short, but I am now supporting a Tassie rider with our TZ350G to race in VIC. Yes I still have all the other bikes but my pocket is very deep!!

We even donated a special award for the "oldies" race meeting at MAC Park S.A. and will do again this year.. Who is bothered to let US at Classic Motorcycling Australia know what the classic sceen is in THEIR state?? Who cares if it takes a little longer to down load our web pages?? And when I say "OUR WEB" that is what it should be is HERE for YOU the classic riders so use it or loose it and that would be a backwards step for classic motorcycling in Australia. Please don't be a knocker just pull the thumb out and be united in classic motorcycling.

Black Mac,

Sorry for hijacking your question. It has been near impossible to get a hold of any one for the race results from the Island and there doesn't look like any hope of getting a copy unless someone gets off their butt and e-mails them to me to put on the site.

Acotrel,

I can not see why you are saying it is slow!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been to other sites and they are slower than this and I also tested You must be logged in to see this link. (from outside of the normal way of connecting for me) and it has loaded real fast.

I could go the commercial advertising side and then I will be able to afford a faster link, but do not want to go down this track. I know for a fact that even if I was to go to a faster link there is no guarantee that you will get the site quicker, because in most cases, it is your local ISP that you connect to the internet with that has the problem.

Cheers,

David

I think we've all been guilty of using this site to push our own barrow on rules, MA problems. Let's face it - this is not the right venue as the rule makers are obviously not interested in this forum as a guide and individual opinions aren't much use unless backed by a majority of riders when it comes to making changes. I think too many of us thought we could air our great ideas and they'd be heard by the right people and acted on - we've been disillusioned. If we keep this as a forum for updating historic racers on what events are coming up, how events have gone (race reports etc) and generally promoting what we are doing around Australia to encourage wider participation, this will be an invaluable site. I've just done a report on QEMSC's last club meeting at Morgan Park - will post this as a new item to fill you in on the sort of activities we are promoting up here.

David - I don't find the site slow, but I don't like the concept of having to choose a topic then people replying to this topic. I think it would work better if you had say half a dozen general headings that people can go into, then just have a chat area under that heading. Say: Recent Race Meeting Reports; Upcoming Events, Technical Questions and Answers, For Sale, Politics ? All people generally want to do is read the latest posts and it's pretty difficult to limit your comments to a single thread - look at the topic this is posted under !.

Stick in there David - it's a great resource, and I admire your efforts in continually trying to improve the way the site serves its users. If we don't start using it more, we're the losers.

David, I really enjoy the site now, it's much more user friendly. How about a separate forum for discussion on machine eligibilty? I suggest it's a major issue facing us now. If we can get the rules right, it will mean that we can operate small businesses making aftermarket parts in support of classic racing with world wide markets. We can race on an equal footing against the best overseas riders. The prospect of international historic/classic racing can only benefit the sport.
Best Regards,

Alan Cotterell
