Dave Large mentioned to me that he had recieved some complaints about my pro sidecar, none solo stance. The suggestion is that as Secretary of the HMRAV I should not have an opinion. I dont agree, I dont know who the complainers are but I am curious to hear whether I am misbehaving or not. If many wish I had no opinion can you let me know and Ishall yhink about it, otherwise I shall not do much. I am genuine in my request here.

Your preferance is sidecars and mine is solos.
Of course if you prefer one or the other the bias comes out. Nothing wrong with that.
Anyway with your outstanding efforts with the HMRAV and classic racing in general you can have a bit of leeway

John,

I do not see any problems with someone taking a preference on one thing over another, even if you are the secretary of the HMRAV, after all we are all humans.

I wish that if people had an issue with someone, they would go directly to that person and let them know instead of running off like some spoilt little kindergarten rich kid going "I am not getting my way and it's their fault (sob, sob, sob), do something about it", well that's what it sounds like.

And as I have said in the past, and I am sure most users that frequent this site would agree, you are doing a great job in your role as Secretary of the HMRAV.

Stand your ground there John and voice your opinion, after all you have one as well. Why should the whingers only have the right to say what they want? We all have an opinion after all.

Regards,

John, For years the sidecars in historic racing have been mediocre. At the last Winton I had a look at them all lined up. I particularly looked at the standard of preparation. I found that the number and standard of the sidecars has improved greatly. So you must be doing some good.
It takes somone like yourself to take a cause on and promote it, if the sport is ever to be any good. The particular critic you mentioned could do a bit of good by taking a leaf out of your book and presenting a clean well-prepared bike at meetings.
Best Regards,

Is your machine authentic or merely eligible?

I dont know that I am responsible for the clean up of sidecars. But I am aware a number of people are considering taking up outfits because they ring me. But thanks for the support. I did find a definition of solos's "as being a frame to store sidecar engines in". Seriously we need to encourage all machines and since I have had little effect with attracting solos I reckon others have to pull their socks up to help also, so please go for it.

John surely you realise that an outfit is just a solo with a training wheel and some people never improve enough to go without the training wheel and ride solo's :-)
