I had a talk to Mick and Matthew Ronke the other day, about promotion of historic events. Basically I pointed out the need for Winton to talk to other promoters.
Apparently there are moves afoot to create a promoters group in motor sport.
While the circuit owners are going off in different directions, we'll always get the situation where event dates coincide. We really need to run a historic 'series', in several states - takes a bit of planning.
Incidently I will be involved in promoting the car historic meeting at Winton next October, and if that goes well, the historic motorcycle meeting at Winton in October 2004.
John, I note you mentioned that meeting on the HMRAV web site, perhaps you might like to try to get some comment on this site? It's still 'pie in the sky', however I really think it's worth a try - one thing though - we have to make a dollar out of it!

maybe we need to somehow get the Victorian promoters, tracks and clubs together for a talk fest to open some doors. We may need to get rid of some old bogies and start pulling together. Maybe a chat between Mick, myself and yourself for a start to see if there can be some mutual goals.

David, thanks however I have arranged for a meeting between a few parties at the Austin 7 meeting at Winton. John is one of them. the subject of the meeting was stated on the HMRAV web site a while back.
It's still very much 'pie in the sky', but it'll take a lot of help from all the guys if we are going to make it happen.
Basically what it's about is the fact that FIM have given InCA world championship status. What has been suggested is that it might be possible to run a meeting the week after the Moto GP at Phillip Island, and catch all the riders returning to Sydney.
The meeting will be a combination of the Southern Classic, The Australian Historic Championships, and the World Historic Championship in one meeting at Winton.
This proposal will require support from a lot of people, however if we start now we have a chance of pulling it off.
Anyone with constructive comment is welcome to have their say on this forum, otherwise please write to Winton Motor Raceway Pty Ltd at Fox Street Winton, to keep your comment private.
