Is there any support for "Truth in Capacity" in that a CB750 with a 1050 capacity is listed as 1050 capacity and not 750cc as we often see in programs. I am not tryng to stop the 1050cc machines, but maybe the public will get a better understanding of why some machines are much better than others.

Your idea has my support John. I was pleased to find out that there are moves afoot to create a 750 capacity class in addition to unlimited, 500, and 350. Should make a lot of bikes much more class competitve. A genuine CB750 is usually not much quicker, and often slower than a 750 Commando. Also Gyro might get a bit more reward for his efforts with the 750 BMW. It should bring quite a few more old 750s out of the woodwork. One thing which almost never happened in the old days, was 'cheating on capacity', (mainly because we couldn't buy the bits to do it), there was still a bit of nitro about, and some of the really fast A graders used it (our Kenny in particular). |

| I am not so much talking about cheating, we are aware of most riders engine capacity as competotors, but spectators do not have this info. and I believe it will make the results more understandable when one bike seems to blast everything off when it is listed as the same capacity. |

| G'day Folks,wouldn't the 1050 cb750 be running white instead of red plates?,give the spectators(paying public)a little credit for recognising capacity anomalities?,most are quite knowledgeable i've found,(my ten cents worth),cheers Mick. |

| Mick in Historic Sidecar Racing we have the unlimited sidecar class up to 1300cc all competitors have white background black numbers. There is no provision for other colours. I take your point about the solos, but I am curious about the sidecar situation because thats my interest and perhaps my first entry should have ben sidecar specific. |

I suggest it is still worthwhile having the event programme accurate. Not every spectator is a regular, and some older competitors, like myself, have raced in the days when the 500cc class, and Unlimited bikes all has yellow number plates. I still have trouble remembering what colour plates modern 600s and Superbikes have. The capacity thing is a bone of contention with me. I don't have a problem with Rex's bikes. I believe they provide the only affordable, competitive way into historic racing at present. However I suggest 1000cc machines should race each other regardless of period. I don't believe there is anything in 'THE RULES' which says that in every race only bikes from the same period, will race against each other. Last year I rode in at least four Period 4 races, with every capacity class present. This is not a safe or fair way to go racing, it is as dangerous as 'handicaps'. |

| Can we just stick to the issue of "truth in Capacity" |

I just had a look a the P4 unlimited Program from the recent Island Classic and to be honest there is no real issue here, most of the capacities are near enough to actual.
Besides 501~750 bikes run white plates and 751+ are now running red plates. The only capacity I can see that is misleading is my own, its listed as 750, though i run a red plate, I didnn't bother listing the capacity because I entered the unlimited class anyway, it should have read 930.
And there are not "moves afoot" to introduce a 750 class, it was introduced on 1 January by MA. Read your rule book, its sent to everyone with a comp licence. |

| I don't believe the 750 class has been run yet, and it remains to be seen how promoters organise the events. I just hope they use a bit of imagination, and come up with something to attract spectators. |

| Hang on Alan, you are canning the promoters before any meeting has been organised. HMRAV has noted that the 750cc fclass has been established and it plans to have events for them. As for promotion it will be much the same as the enthusasim for promotion of any other class I guess but things may change. Ideas are welcome |

Sorry John, I'm didn't intend to can the promoters, but in the past the practice has been to run races with all bikes in the same period, and with all capacity classes present. What this means is that guys with 350s riding in a race against 500s and unlimited bikes seem to be overshadowed. Noone notices a really fast 350 when there are fifteen bikes ahead of it. If the 750s are run in the same races as the unlimited bikes the same overshadowing will occur. What I'm suggesting is that we should run P3 and P4 750 fourstrokes together, and put 750 two strokes in the unlimited class. Just a thought, but I think our sport could be better if we 'matched' certain types of machine instead of always blindly sticking to this period thing. Really all those featherbed 750 Triumphs and Nortons in P3 should cr*p on a 'real' CB750. |
