Ron Glover suggested the concept of an Historic Broadford along the lines of Historic Winton.
I have had a chat with the Austin 7 club. They feel there is scope for it. There are many vehicles which could be suited. I have had discussions with MV track inspector who has advised that there are plans inhand to have the track fully licensed for Cams events to permit use of the track for mid week for promotional income and Super Karts. Austin 7 club cannot promote any meeting because of existing committments, but they would help with advise.
Any such event may need to be differentiated by other events with its line up, so if we start with Sidecars what else is there left to promote! So we need volunteers to help with some preliminary planning and investigation, names and numbers please. This site could readily be used to pull the ideas together before any body needs to have face to face action. I imagine we would take a couple of years to get it together, so lets start.

I must be getting old, however the things i like to see on a race track are 'genuine' racing machines. GP/production racing motorcycles, GP cars (open wheelers) whether historic or modern. Converted street machinery leaves me cold. Also Gokarts don't do much for me. I know they're very competitive and are a basis for training GP car drivers, but I don't feel they represent any form of transport vehicle, and their development doesn't contribute much to automotive progress.
I know we have to tolerate some of these things, other than motorcycles, however could we be a bit selective please?
(Please don't ever suggest running events along with dune buggys or those utes with the big wheels or any other kind of truck or ute!)

Allan Greening I hear your comments about V8's ripping up the track and fences to suit cars not Motorcycles on the Future directions topic page. You ask have MV been spoken to. In my earlier note I mentioned I spoke with the MV track inspector who operates under instruction from MV. I have nothing to do with that part of the process, but I can say I was told that it is not envisaged that V8 would be invited let alone would even fit on the track, Cams have particular requirements for those vehicles. It is my understanding that the track will always be a motorcycle track so dont worry about that unless there are facts to the contrary. There are limited days available for additional racing, but the circuit could be used for advertisng production if it was CAMS licenced during the week.
As for barriers etc, the new insurance requirements demand that spectators be protected, the steps that must be put in place to meet those demands also enable the track to fit in with CAMS requirements. So for no additional expence the track is OK. I have been advised that the requirement for set back distances between track edge and walls will be set to suit motorcycles.I have seen the design criteria and since I am also a Civil Engineer, the same as the Track inspector I am convinced things will be ok.
Now if anybody has any concerns I would suggest that you speak with MV directly otherwise we all may be arguing without the facts.
I suggest we continue to plan, and see what happens in the 2 year period things may take. At the end we may not have a goer, but then again we will know why instead of always wondering.

John, I have noticed a couple of groups of older guys who ride classic motorcycles around the countryside. Last year one of the groups had a rally and stopped at Glenrowan.
In historic motorcycling there seems to be two groups - the racers, and the restorers. I suggest it could be beneficial to coordinate a few activities through your club. It might be interesting to run an early morning trial for historic road machines terminating at Historic Broadford or Historic Winton.
The trial could be run similarly to the old British Trials. Could bring you a few members with a slightly different outlook.
The group that stopped at Glenrowan had Guzzi Falcone, SS100 Brough, and R7 AJS, and quite a few other interesting bikes. Alan Cotteral

What do you think of this idea, goot any contacts?

I have passed your suggestion on to the promotion Committee and they wondered if it would work for the Geelong Sprints etc. Maybe a special ticket price also for the rally goers would help?
Martin Suggested "we could put something in AMT, and would need to send out info to the clubs. We have a database for the clubs that advertise with AMT - even thoough many are out of date cos they don't advise when they change their Secretarys - Maybe I could put a flyer into the copies that go to the clubs ..."
So the idea may grow legs Alan.

Can you give us more details of the style of trial the pommies run please?

A few years ago there were movies around on the International Six Days Trial and the Scottish. Generally speaking a lot of the course was off-road, and there were timed sections. The whole thing was very exacting, and hard on riders. I believe John Burrows actually got a medal in the ISDT, which is very commendable.
What I am suggesting as a trial or rally for historic bikes is more in the way of a 'treasure hunt', where riders go from point to point via a supplied map, and pick up info. First to the final destination with all the clues recorded, wins the big prize. If we were going from Lilydale to Broadford, there are plenty of routes and plenty of landmarks.
If you want a variation on this theme, we can introduce timed sections which riders have to traverse within certain limits or lose points. It then becomes a matter of setting up checkpoints and clocking people in and out.
I've been referred to the British ACU web site for info on how they run rallies and trials. I'll give more info when I discover it. Also plenty of car clubs run these events, so it's a matter of asking around, to find out how they do it.

What about a concept where we have a bigger range of old racing bikes, not normally in attendance at Historic Meetings. It may include TZ700, older GP bikes, speed attempt machines stuff from the 1920's that I know is sitting around in sheds and used only on Classic or Vintage rallies. The criteria being they represent racing machines of the past. 3 wheelers and sidecars as well. If we provided for the range of machines right thru the ages on display. Maybe some racing, others on exhibition laps and others on display only. Perhaps if we run a very different event that provides for this we may get a gr8 program. We would need to work out some plan that encouraged the machine owners to bring them out,any ideas?

Well I have had the whisper in the ear. Even though the track may be eligible for a CAMS licence the word is that hell would freeze over before the Executive would permit Cars to race at REG HUNT PARK BROADFORD. So my earlier concept of a range of racing machines from as earlier may be a focus to look at.

Does this mean that if the guy who we named the park after, was alive today, we wouldn't let him drive his F1 Maserati there?

Reg Hunt is very much alive and if he still had his 250F I am sure the local shire would have allowed him to give the old girl a run.
Sadly the car went to England some years ago.
