Over the past few weeks I've tried to think a bit laterally, and come up with few few new formats with which we can promote the cause of historic road racing.
My latest idea was prompted from watching last weekends meeting at PI. How about we run a feature race as last event on the programme at each historic road race meeting, being the 'Historic Superbike Race'.
I have been busting to see all those P3 Vincents and the Harley, in the same race as Rex Wolfenden (and all the Honda clones), with the fast Trident and Stuart Lolly (GS1100 Suzuki) and those two fast Ducatis.
Eligibility could simple state that the machines must be over 500cc, and be 'Period Eligible' in either P3,P4 or P5. This would mean that the bikes later than 1972 must run petrol.
The race would show superbike development over the years, and it'd be interesting to spectators to see the difference between the eras.
I believe the Historic Superbike race would be a drawcard

Is your machine authentic or merely eligible? |
