I was discussing some of the topics on this web site with Allan Greening. I agree with him that many of the proposals such as Formula (Historic) BEARS, Formula (Historic) Japanese, Clubmans class, Formula 850 Pushrod Class, don't require changes to existing rules, to run them. They can be run at the choice of the promoter.
I believe a large part of BEARS racing falls within the Historic Road Racing ambit.
I also suggest that any road racing bike over ten years old is 'HISTORIC', and the rules should cater for them!
So we need to define what really constitutes a historic road racing machine, and we probably need a rule change to create 'Period 6', so more recent bikes can still compete. Perhaps P5 (Forgotten Era) could be extended up to 1993?
I am interested in other's opinions on this matter, and any other areas where they believe the rules are inadequate.
I suggest we should continuously improve 'the MA rules', and improve our sport. Let's get our representation with MA working for us.We have been far too conservative in the past.

John, I note David's comment about you asking for ideas and then saying 'we are going to do this anyway'.
I am not about to tell HMRAV how to conduct business. However I really hope you intend to try some of the suggested formats in meetings you promote.
As you are aware, over the last couple of years I have started the Winton Motorcycle Club on its way. The situation is that it is affiliated with Benalla Auto Club who own Winton Raceway. BAC are also affiliated with Winton Motor Raceway Pty Ltd who hire the circuit from BAC and promote meetings there. Winton Motor Raceway Pty Ltd don't even own a ball point pen.
Mick Ronke is the CEO of Winton Motor Raceway Pty Ltd, he is Secretary of BAC, and President of Winton Motorcycle Club. The point is that between him and Bruce Robertson, the President of BAC, decisions are made about whether events will run at Winton.
If I can't present a sound case that meetings (historic or otherwise) will make a profit, they won't be held. The way Historic Road Race meetings have been held in the past, I could never guarantee a return from the gate. So what does this say to you about the future meetings at Winton?
It says to me that unless we change our formats for meetings, and get a bigger following, in the short term the riders will continue to pay the so-called 'profit'. In the long term the sport will cease to exist.
I encourage you to respect rider's ideas about how meetings should be run. There hasn't been enough democracy in motorcycle racing in Australia in the fifty years I have been involved. However in the end, we look to HMRAV and Winton Motor Raceway Pty Ltd to run their businesses profitably and make historic racing happen, so the executive decisions are up to them (including yourself).

I have recieved advise that in the early days of Historic racing, the cut off period was 15 years prior. Is there a way to present an argument to revist this arena and solve the issue once and for all? As Richard Frank said to me, currently we do not present a show for the punters!
