After receiving 2 notes from Graham Harder treasurer HMRAV saying that our calander is correct I decided to phone Graham and ask a couple of questions.

Will HMRAV be running their club rounds at this meeting?

Will racing be on Friday?

How can all classes be run P1-P5 solo's and outfits?

One answer was they would run races up to 6PM with daylight saving (I believe racing must be ended by 6PM regardless at Winton raceway). After the phone call I was more in the dark than before please lets hope that they HMRAV can sort this meeting out in time.

It has been stated at one stage that P5 races would be held on the Friday! My question is who would be the paying public and what riders could turn up to race on the Friday! Would that meen there could be a practice day on the Thursday. I think this would turn off a lot of racers from entering for sure. I can not afford 5 day in a motel to get a couple of rides.

Seems a bit rich to run the HMRAV club championships at the same time the Australian Historic Championships are run! We really should get our priorities right and concentrate on getting all Periods covered in the Championships (including Period 5) during the Saturday and Sunday. HMRAV should run their club championship on the Thursday if that's what they want to do, or simply decide it on a points basis from the meeting events without special 'club' events.
I think it's more important to attract interstate riders to the Historic Championships - nobody needs 5 nights in a motel.

Talking to a person from one of our Historic Racing clubs the other day, I made the suggestion that Barry Sheene should be invited to Historic Winton in October. He replied 'at $8000 a pop, who needs him?'. I think the answer is 'we do'. We also need Hugh Anderson and Ginger Molloy, the Hintons and as many of the other 'good guys' as we can get. These are the guys we need to beat if we are going to be genuine about our racing. Most of these 'old timers' are still very fast and would present a greater level of interest for the paying public. - Who's that? we'd forgotten all about them!

Could not agree more, Alfonso.
Do you think PIMS (Phillip Island Motor Sport) and AMCN got good value out of Barry Sheene at this years Island Classic...?
Abso-bloody-lutely..!!! And value doesn't need to be measured in dollars and cents either. Most healthy clubs don't know what to spend their funds on.. so why not invest it in the future of our sport..?
Classic Racing is one of the fastest growing forms of motorcycling in the world (entrants). It's time we started treating it in Australia like a viable, marketable and exciting form of entertainment.
The only way to do this is to provide the best possible racing, by the best possible riders, with the highest possible profiles.
I would love to see an entrepreneurial event organiser pay for some of our modern stars (superbike guys) and provide them with a Manx or something. Then watch the press take notice of us.
I do realise that our sport is largely made up of, and paid for, by the 'mid-fielders' who trot out their bikes for a run every so often. I don't know about you, but I would prefer finish 12th in front of a few thousand people instead of a couple of hundred.
And I agree with another of your comments too..... I feel it would be a crime to run an event in Australia without a Hinton on the program. So what if Rob is virtually untouchable on that Yamaha, they always have been..... Cheers
