Can anyone help? A mate and I attended the recent Tarrengower hillclimb. We had such a good time, that we raced out and acquired an old Lindsay Urquhart kneeler, missing the engine. Lindsay suggests that it might be from around 1966 and was possibly owned/raced by Harry Rowe, Bob MacDonough or even Gavin Porteous. It was probably powered by a pre-unit Triumph engine and a Norton gearbox. It is still fitted with single leading shoe Triumph brakes. The original red gelcoat has been painted silver and has a racing number, "X8" on the sidecar guard. The top frame tubes have been cut and brackets welded in for removeable top tubes. The engine mounts have been modified for a Honda 750/4 and the sidecar nosecone has a hole in it for an oil cooler. It is not known if it was ever raced with a Honda motor or even completed. A varnished marine ply floor with three inch thick, multi panelled padding is attached to the floor with press studs. The sidecar floor has been extended outside the sidecar wheel "ala" short circuit style. We would like to restore it as close as possible to original racing spec. Any help on filling in the gaps in this outfits history would be greatly appreciated.
As neither of us has raced in many years, we hoped to campaign the old warhorse in historic hillclimbs such as Tarrengower and the Geelong Sprints. Are there many more events such as these on the Historic racing calender?
Are we just wasting our time? Your comments please

Sadly you can't ask Harry Rowe anymore but I'll ask Bob if he recalls anything, it may be one of the Oxford Racing outfits that Harry had.

Thanks Al, I believe one of the old Oxford Racing crew, Russell "surname unknown" lives up Montrose/Lilydale way. He may be able to provide more info too! I know an old workmate of Russell's who will have his phone number and address. Ant more info greatly appreciated.

You are never wasting you time with a sidecar. If you manage to put a 650cc donk in it you could participate in the post classic sidecar events with it. I shall ask around for info.

Bob MacDonough is trying to come to Broadford with me on Anzac Day for the ride day, you can ask him there if you have a few free hours.
