In February 2002 Bob Blythe is bringing the George Beale InCA riders to Eastern Creek. This group compete in a lot of European countries and I understand the eligibility rules are quite strict and purist. They do allow use of exotic materials and unrestricted engine development. I notice in the latest Classic Racer magazine there is an article on the T5 Tickle Manx Norton. I believe it wouldn't be eligible to run in InCA. Does anyone know what the story is with eligibility in the UK, they seem to be able to run pre 1962 machines with single disc brake, modified featherbed frames such as the Tickle ? We seem to have problems in Australia with minor items such as ten inch brakes on P3 machines. What's the story? Why don't the Brits have the same problems. If someone began winning races on a Tickle framed Manx in Oz there would be immediate protests. The disc brake would give some competitors a fit! Seems to me there should be room for specials in P3. I'm not proposing the use of disc brakes although it mightn't be a bad idea, but surely riders should be able to use the 230mm Grimeca, which is cheap and available to all. The big obstacles to competing in P3 are the front brake, the mandatory five or six speed gearbox and belt drive, a decent featherbed frame and tanks, altogether these cost $10,500 on any competitive bike. The rest such as engine and forks etc, you can get away with using a Jawa, and Jappo parts. It's not cheap to do it even half reasonably, and if you look like winning, the guys start looking at what they can pick on your bike to protest about. I think we have shot ourselves in the foot with our eligibility rules. In short if you want to race, buy yourself an RS125 and do it properly, you are wasting your time with historic racing in P3. Best Regards, Alan Cotterell
